Drafting

Drafting essays has always been a problem for me when I write I don’t try to control it i just flow. When i go back through for corrections i have a lot to do and i always do as much as i can, but no matter how much work I seem to put into the corrections there is always more to do. My teachers have always told me even tho I’m a strong writer i lack in spelling and grammatical errors because I go to fast. I hate peer edits because I know I’ve missed something and i find mistakes made by myself to be embarrassing. It seems that when ever i get a peer reviewed paper back there are so many corrections that my head spins. Ultimately I go to fast and create more work for myself in the end. I also have a nasty habit of kicking myself in the seat of my pance by doing everything I can to make my work as good as I can and then not turning it in this in the end is what always gets me.

Food is dead

The article food is dead gave me a feeling of unease and left a bitter taste in my mouth, it starts off about 3 young men down to there last 70 000 dollars trying to create a cheaper cellphone tower. Through there endeavors they stumbled into a new problem and that was food, they found it increasingly hard to get the right nutrition and find time to eat. That’s when Ryan Heart came up with the idea of taking out the preparation presses of making something to eat. He took all the essential nutrients needed for humans to survive at there most raw form and threw them into a blender, this creation called soylant went crazy after he posted it and started to spread the word it was so popular that the men dropped the ideas for the cellphone towers and started a factory for soylant. To further his product, that he claims is only for the benefit of humanity and not for his own profit, he went around and talked to other people making food imitations to see how they marketed there products and what he could do to boost sales. Ryan Heart really annoyed me he seemed very arrogant. This whole idea of drinking a watered down pancake mix for every meal sounds nauseating to me. He also has this assured idea that farms are dirty and inefficient. He couldn’t be any more wrong farms now a days are more efficient than ever and ya there dirty but some people like to get down in dirty to get grease on your hands and feel the aces of throbbing mussels after a long day of work. To see something that you personally did not paying some one to. To see the animals and plants you have blood sweat and whatever else into. I also find the idea of living on one taste to be tragic food is like art the idea behind peeping and making food is to make the flavors dance across the taste buds of those you are cooking for.

Through out Entering the Conversation they talk about the benefits of the they say this so i said this they talk about how its beneficial to your point if you incorporate the other persons argument. I couldn’t agree more with what there saying, the points are compelling and an interesting read due to the many examples. I like how they incorporated Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.s speeches to show how a good argumentative piece could be taken and re-written as a play, they pull in other well known authors as well and point out how and wear they use tech rica being talked about in this book. Each point made shows the prompt of what made the writer put in the effort to write the piece in the first place. The templates they put in through out the reading are also very helpful when it comes to comprehending what they are trying to say). They say that people grow up learning not to make statements in their writing that people will disagree with and they are wrong on that front I love to argue and I have always stated my mind weather it be a popular opinion or not.

This reading begins a solid set of rules for creating and writing a persuasive, eloquent argument. It illustrates the importance of setting context, background, and an overall theme before pushing your argument. Without setting context, it is not impossible for the argument to go completely unnoticed. This piece gives several examples of how to introduce the topic, and how to give information on the topic while still making your argument clear. Writers should be looking to present the facts and the context of the situation, as well as what may be wrong with it, before even taking a solid position of the subject. If done properly, I could imagine that a reader might begin to form their own opinion on the subject, which could be sculpted by the writer. Similarly important, this article discusses return sentences. Just in case the thesis or argument isn’t perfectly clear in the context of the topic, a return statement will make sure the argument is hit home.

The revisions of this paper where not what I had expected they were a lot more in depth than they were back I high school. The peer review was a lot different as well, it wasn’t as in depth and it was ruder we only focused on negatives back then. If I could go back and fix some t
hings the biggest thing id fix is the length I would have started with a larger paper with everything I wanted to say so that when it came time for corrections I was ready. I would have also liked to have gone back through and had maybe one more person look at just the spelling because of how weak my grammar is. I find it difficult to type with out thinking about what I’m leading myself into and that’s one of the only things I like about my paper is that to me when read its smooth it has a flow there’s no abrupt endings or starts.

Pg 2 Out of The Kitchen on to The Couch
In the second paragraph Michael Pollan talked about “The French Chef” a cooking show that had been taken off the air. He talked about how the familiar sounds on the show of clanking pots scraping knives and things being dropped were comporting to him. It seems as if he enjoys the show as well, it seems by the excited tone in his writing that the fact that the show is shot live with no cuts or edits that he does enjoy these days sitting on the couch watching his mother’s show. He mentions how the show gives him a very verité feeling unlike any he’s ever had. I personally enjoy the way this was written, it was very descriptive, and I felt like I was in the den with him he added things that where not necessary. These things however where helpful to the compostable feeling that was portrayed in this paragraph

Pg 7 Out of The Kitchen on to The Couch
Although this paragraph is extremely short there are points to it I find important. He brings us talking about how fun it is to watch chefs and others cooking meat and such in their kitchens but we at home don’t use our cook wear for anything but quick fast meals. I find this to be like the way our country works in a lot of different aspects, people like to watch to see what they think there capable of but when it comes down to it there not. Humans are lazy we worked hard to build our self’s a society that we can laze around in, we do the bare minimum to help anyone including ourselves my biggest example to this is all the grease filled fast food bags you see on the side of the road. We know our climate is changing and that pollution is speeding it up not to mention directly hurting other creatures, but we are still to lazy to carry the trash to the nearest trash can and throw it away.

Pg 1 watching what we eat
In the Paragraph we read about how television has turned cooking into a spectator sport. I find this entertaining because when you think of sports you think of more physical things such as football or lacrosse even basket ball and running you don’t realise how much stress is actually in the cooking shows. They make meals that would take me 2 hours in 30 min from the raw ingredients. The question asked at the end is also a great point, why do we watch a task most people find tediouse to do we don’t wach shows about other house hold chores so why do we with cooking. I thik its because we get a sense of achievement from there succeses

In they say I say the author first talks about how when asked to interpret a reading student only overlooked at the authors side. Once they where opened to the idea that the author was responding to some one else the conversation changed, it went from being drawn out and forced to people wanting to put in there two cents. This is because they had more than one thing to respond to, they could look at more than one argument. Personally, I never thought about looking into the argument causing the author to write. Another point that stuck out to me was that authors will also build arguments from things people left out of their argument. This is a tactic that I would like to try in our next paper to see if it makes it easier to get my point across.
